Error message on sending mail

Every time I try to send email I get the below error message. Running 5.1.6.2 on W7 home and Pro with Kaspersky Pure 2.
All patches applied.
All works as expected with Thunderbird.
How can I fix this problem please.

---------------------------
Edit Mail Message
---------------------------
Server reports error. The response is: 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed: Invalid base64 data in continued response
---------------------------
OK

Having same message error. Cannot send mail to server.

Google the error - you will find that it is not authenticating correctly. If it is working on Thunderbird, then go into your account settings / transport in the Bat and DOUBLE CHECK your ports, username and authentication settings

Have redone all settings but still won't send.

You could try to enable or disable 'require secure authentication' at account -> prperties -> transport -> (smtp) authentication
That's just a guess, in case that doesn't help you could start with a pointer to the ISP you're trying to connect.

We are using openSRS for mail provider if that helps. Settings work fine with Thunderbird.

I am having exactly the same problem.
Other email clients work fine, just not TB.. (version 5.1.6.2)
I have tried TB on various clients, XP, Win7 - all fail.

Any ideas ?

From the OpenSRS documentation:

In Outlook, look for the setting "Require Secure Password (SPA)". Make sure that is NOT checked.

The error you are all describing sounds like you have the "Require secure authentication" option checked. Make certain it is not.

Defiantly not checked.
Removed my internet security and no go either.
I've even redone all my settings and still the same error.
I never used outlook before at home so configured for the accounts causing the problem and everything worked first time.
Thanks for your suggestions so far.

Kevin.

Not knowing your ISP - try changing the CONNECTION setting and see if that works. Mine are all set to "Regular" except for Google which uses "Secure to a regular port" (StarTLS) Check the port numbers etc. Make sure you are using correct authentication settings

Marck is an expert, so if he over rides what I just said, listen to him, not me  ;)

Same here guys, definitely not checked. I have as mentioned tried on different OS's and with different ISP's.
Same error message.

Can I downgrade TB to a previous version and see if it is a version specific bug ? as TB has been working (with the varied OS's) and via lots of ISP's for years..

Well so far Ritlabs support blame my ISP  :o I am forced to use a different mail client, that works perfectly.. We seem to have come to an impass here..
Odd that only The Bat! has the SMTP send problem...

It's strange as it's only The Bat that gives the problem. Other email clients that I've configured to test have worked with no problems what so ever.

My main isp is Eclipse but we have a club account with UK2.net and that's the one giving the problems connecting to for sending mail.
Have spent hours trying to sort this out but have to admit defeat and use something else for this account, not really what I wanted but needs must.

The answer is in nslookup

Answer section:
MX-record for uk2.net:
   Preference = 0
   Mail server = mx.uk2.net.cust.a.hostedemail.com
   TTL = 300 (5 minutes)

hostedemail.com is OpenSRS which is the same place we have our email hosted. You need to get the server people to open a ticket with openSRS and push them to fix it. This is not a Ritlabs problem IMHO.

Then why do the other clients I have tested work fine..

Fix what BTW ?

All,
My ISP logged a call with OpenSRS (hostedemail.com) and my problem is fixed  :D
How about you guys ?

IF you know what it is that changed, post it for others  :)

Rick,

I don't, my ISP support said that OpenSRS didn't get back to them, but my TB works now..

BUT as others who have had the problem mention OpenSRS or hostedemail.com being involved or bein their eventual ISP thought they could try and see of outbound SMTP is fixed..

Spoke to the isp and they said now problems showing up so I sent them my log file and now just tried and alls working as normal. I have emailed tech support but no reply as to what was changed or done to sort this problem out.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Kevin.

After following the support article on InMotion web page my problem was solved for sending emails.
You have to setup the smpt server to connect without authentication:
Properties > Transport > SMTP server under [Authentication] remove the check-mark from [Require secure authentication].
For a very strange reason this is an issue for TheBat only.
