Here's a link to English version info:  https://www.ritlabs.com/en/news/7281/   I upgraded yesterday and it's running smoothly.

I just purchased and downloaded. Will install later today.

Looking at release info doesn't indicate anything particularly new and the bug fixes have not been happening to me.

I agree, there are no meaningful new features I've discovered, but I've found each new release is a bit smoother. For me, virtual folders update more quickly in version 9, which I appreciate, and by upgrading I'll get whatever enhancements are added for next couple of years. I've long believed the best way to see a product updated is to continue to invest in it.

@david kirk Did you find where is now shortcuts redactor?

Yet another Major version update — which implies license upgrading, which translated to cash. The upgrade from v8 to v9 was above €45 (w/ VAT).

Personally, I don't see any huge changes features-wise that justify a MAJOR number bump-up, it seems to me that MAJOR versioning is more bound to a marketing scheme rather than codbase rewrites and major features updates.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning#Version_numbers_as_marketing

On Win 10 x64 I'm already experiencing lot's of problems — TB is unable to save changes to the update settings configuration, and an error message notified me that TB was unable to associate .eml files to the app, as well as other email related extensions and the "mailto:" protocol (I can't get again the error to show, which only showed on my first attempt to customize the update settings, but I can confirm that none of these are currently associated to TB, as they used to be with v8). So much for pre-release beta testing!

I've been using TB Home since v7, and I can't recall a single release that didn't frequently crash with memory access violation errors — which is rather disappointing to see in a security-oriented application.

I think that the upgrade fee was too high, and that existing customers should pay less to upgrade (I mean, I've paid just €12 less than new customers).

I'm not sure what your point is. I agree the upgrade price seems too high, but if you had problems with ver 8, I assume you contacted Support? I also use Win10 x64 and TB! works smoothly, so the problem may be in a configuration issue on your PC. I also have come to believe that several major changes are in store with version 9 and the complexity of those changes affected the ver 9 release. Should ver 9 release have been delayed? Yes, I think so, but it's now done and I remain positive on changes to come.

As I wrote in the other post: The asked price for the license upgrade is far over the top.
The v8 license was good for about 1 year (in my case) and you ask for 54 Euros? No. Simply no.
I would be fine with 30 Euros per upgrade every 2 years and I would be a future happy customer without giving it a second thought, 30 Euros every year would also be ok'ish but it wouldn't feel that good. But 54 Euros? For about a year and nobody knows what's your next "business idea" to get more financial influx? Nah, I'm done with further the Bat upgrades, sorry, but you lost me by greed and intransparency.

I agree that the price of a licence upgrade is too high - I have two instances of the Bat, so that's double the cost.  Is it policy to have a major version change every year now?  I've been exclusively using the Bat for more than 15 years now - it's a brilliant email program, but that's a lot of money!

I don't think so.

The Gmail authorize bug still not fixed :(
https://www.ritlabs.com/en/forums/forum4/topic14455/

The issue may be slow in being resolved because it doesn't appear consistently and that may bring into question whether it's a bug or a configuration issue. I've used TB! since version 7 with never a problem with Gmail, either in Win 7 or Win 10.

Thankfully I haven't had problems with TB but this last couple weeks I've been trying to set up a Thunderbird IMAP connection but couldn't get Thunderbird to connect. I use 2 step authorization and followed all the normal steps but no go.  Then all of a sudden it worked and has been fine. This was on a Windows 10 computer.

I'll try to set up TB on that computer next time I'm at it and see if I have any problems. Will report back my results.

I couldn't log in to my Gmail account. I have 2 factor autho set up and when I'm taken to Gmail login I enter my email address and then in the next screen I enter my password but it doesn't proceed.  I get a message that the browser isn't supported and cant refresh or click on the more info link. That's as far as I get.TB v9.0.8 on Windows 10.  I've tried making two different browser default but that doesn't make a difference.

I haven't tried yet but there is a new version of TB that references updates to Gmails new protocols.

That depends on when you buy the upgrade. You might have a reason to not buy it on day 1 ...
For me it was a little over one year and the price upgrade is still greed.

Improvements

The Bat! v9.0.14 is in compliance with the Google's recently updated security standards related to the OAuth 2.0 protocol for authentication with Gmail

I appreciate the continued development of The Bat and will buy a v9 license for sure.

Having said that, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Workspace / Customize Toolbars / Shortcuts option (present in v8 and before) will be reintroduced. I am using an Apple Magic keyboard 2, and it sucks to have to use Fn+delete instead of delete to delete emails.

Other minor glitches include messages shown up to 3 times in a Virtual folder (that I use to aggregate 2 inboxes) - with the "to:" column showing it was only received on one email account, and only showing once when switching from he Virtual folder to the logical Inbox view.

Please keep up the good work + happy new year 2020!

I really like TB and the support is amazing. I usually support the software I use on a daily basis by automatically upgrading. However, as others have said, the upgrade price is too steep and v9 has nothing I need. My backup and multibooting software often goes for 5 years or more  without a major version number increase.

The HTML formatting system is a real mess. It really needs improving so that things we take for granted, for example copying formatting styles, is easier. In general, TB has so many settings, it would be handy to be able to 'copy' an existing account's settings rather than have to manually configure each new account to act the same way.

In spite of the above, I would still upgrade for a better discount. As it is, as v8 works fine and is still supported, I'm staying with it until I either have to upgrade or until a version appears that has new features that would benefit me.

Cheers

DrT

Additional:- Also not happy that there are fixes for v8 in v9! To be smart, either the fixes should not have been specified, should not even be mentioned or delayed until a later version in the v9 series to lose the connection with v8. Add to that that all the bugs I have reported have remained unfixed.

Same here. Version 8.x was probably the most neglected version of the program up to date - 2 updates in 2019 is a joke. I will NOT update for this price even if I have to migrate to some other email client. Update should me much cheaper than it is for now - I'm purchasing it for years, spent a lot of money for it. But I will no longer support Ritlabs - I get nothing for the money. Sorry.

Hi,

just want to be sure, that I'm not only one, who can't change size of icons on toolbar? It was possible in V7 but it's not anymore in V9 :( there is very limited customize of all the icons from V8.

Please check both config windows compared...
Also tried last version 9.1.6, there was added Options "button", but it is plain...so maybe they are working on it?!

You're not only one. Support says that may be in the future they give us again small size of icons.

Ah, are you kidding me George...I needed to switch to V9, because of error access violation (crash of auto processing folders), which should be solved in V8, but wasn't. Now in V9 icons...really don't understand why these are BIG, on smaller devices like 13" laptop it's not OK :(

>> Ah, are you kidding me George
Am I do?)))

I don't like this too. And wait few months on 8 version because they're kill it shortcuts. Now I can do my own shortcuts and dont' worry about small icons. Wait a fix from vendor or not to wait - this is a question, yes.

Yes I've noticed shortcuts missing also in V7, I've noticed some bigger change in icons design, but only in V9, so that souldn't affect smaller icon possibility :(
