What's happened to the editor?

Just upgraded to 9.4.1. The editor seems to have changed completely, and not for the better:

  • Using the spell-checker inserts text in the wrong font (9-point rather than 10-point), and with newlines before and after.
  • I can no longer select text and drag it to a new place.
  • The displayed font is not the correct size (seems to be 11 rather than 10-point).

Well, as you've seen, the HTML editor has been replaced by a new one. Ritlabs is working hard to iron out the wrinkles.

I appreciate that a new HTML editor is in the works, but version 9 has been in perpetual beta since shortly after initial release in 2019. I would be happier if beta releases were tested more thoroughly prior to being released. Several recent betas lasted no more than one day. My hope is that version 10 will not be released until it is stable and all documented features work. Having said that, I will upgrade my license to version 10 as soon as the option is available. I'm at 9.3.4 with no plans to upgrade until next release has been available for a couple of weeks. I like TB!, but the testing process leaves customers doing the actual testing. My expectation is that TB! will return to its stable reputation when the new editor is ready.

I do still use it 9-3-4 because of another bug.

Peter, don't forget to write all you bugs to the support by ticket.

Is there any point in reporting a bug? I'll try it, as I've had good responses from the dev team in the past, but I agree with David that customers shouldn't be expected to do all the testing. This sort of thing really shouldn't have been part of a formal release.

How do you think programmers will be know about your bug if you won't write them? There is no any other way.

By thorough testing?

I have reported it, and apparently the bugs are being worked on for the next release.

That's great. Thank you.

I totally agree. As a retired freelance software developer, I find it hard to accept this situation.

A new version has been released that addresses many issues related to HTML viewing and editing:

Daniel van Rooijen,The new version is better but there are still problems like an email that disappears completely in the reply email or the impossibility to insert text at the top of a reply, even in the HTML editor.

Thanks Francis, but please note that this is just a user-to-user forum. If you send your observations to Ritlabs (using the Support menu above this page), they may fix the problems in the next release. In this particular case, I would include your reply template with your report.

For those interested in a more active role in solving bugs and adding features, I would recommend joining the Beta test mailing list at https://www.mail-archive.com/tbbeta@thebat.dutaint.com/ (press 'tbbeta' in the top-right corner for instructions).

For the time being I also had to revert to 9.3.4... The new HTML Editor is so buggy it can't be used (like replying the messages). I experience many problems already submitted (https://bt.ritlabs.com/view.php?id=2147)  Paragraphs are changing layout, bullet list are misaligned… It looks like it wasn’t tested at all :(

This was my fault, as the macro %quote was missing in the template of my reply.

On my computer I can forward emails without losing the original, my colleague used exactly the same template as me and on his computer, the previous emails are missing.

He then added the %QUOTE and then it worked.  I did not need to add it.  We are both using 9.4.4. (but wish we were still using 9.3.x due to the many editor bugs.

Crazy!
