Many people are having problems with the new HTML editor. If you cannot find a setting that solves this or a different way of inserting the image, maybe the only solution is to go back to the previous version of The Bat..

v9.3.4.was released today and it addresses many HTML-related problems in earlier versions.

9.4.3.1 is okay, but it's more evidence that TB! is evolving to be "powerful, but buggy." On my first use, I noticed that the click to lock toolbars in edit mode doesn't work (the default shows a basic HTML toolbar AND an advanced HTML toolbar). I wanted to disable the advanced toolbar as that is too many icons (two rows) for me - but I can't do that simple item. Tech support acknowledged that it is a known bug to be fixed later. My preference would be that such known bugs be fixed prior to roll out. It now seems that every release has quickly discovered bugs that are not caught in beta test. Once more, beta testing is our job as customers. I would prefer to have the little things fixed than have new features instead. However, I will remain positive that version 10 will be stable.

That's only understandable. I think that a large overhaul was overdue for The Bat though (after 20+ years in service in a very dynamic enviroment, the internet, and on an ever changing platform, Windows) and Ritlabs' new management decided to give it a shot (whereas previously, only minor improvements and trivialities were still being implemented). Kudos to them for that.

Now, with multiple major sections of code that need a rewrite, it's probably inevitable that they work on several of those at the same time due to functional overlap and interconnectedness (e.g between the message editor, image downloader/caching, html viewing, templates). That makes it much harder to get all the little details right than when you can work on one section at a time.

So, they're breaking eggs all right, but I'm confident that we will have a great omelet once they're finished, one that will hopefully last us another 20 years. Until then, I will be staying out of the kitchen though.. :)

I can wait some more and stay with TB! v9.3.4. One of annoying for me bugs is corrected now. Second isn't yet. But I'm sure that will be. This is not a "big company with big lies" where bugs that I find and report can't be fixed by years.

With the update to 9.4.3 I had a problem with not being able to easily configure the choice to download external images. There was a button on the top right of the message window (where the short headers are displayed) in version 9.4.1 that allowed me to download the external images for that message.

While I understand the concept behind choosing to download the images by URL (i.e. sender's domain), I found this difficult to work with and confusing with no apparent documentation that made sense to me.

What I've done is uninstall The Bat! version 9.4.3, reboot, then install the older version 9.4.1 which gave me back the ability to choose on a per-message basis whether to download the external images based upon my trust of the sender.

I've used The Bat! Pro since version 5, having moved from Barca Pro (Pocomail enhanced) because of my distaste for Outlook and because The Bat! is one of the few remaining decent email clients that are continually being updated. I'm hoping that the issue is resolved by another fix or with version 10 when released.

That's thing ask many people. Now TB! have "image download manager" in html-viewer settings. I do prefer to set soon only my list of rules for this. This is great thing. Just needs to understand how to add your rules.
Yes, we need article about it in help.

Wouldn't it be better to have both? Implemented so, that when you press 'download images for this message', there is an option to save it as a rule for this sender and/or this domain?

Yes, you are right. That's good idea. Write about it to the support.

Sigh! I was hoping that one of you HTML-loving v9-users would do so. But no, it's always poor old Danny boy who has to do the hard work around here..

Anyway, consider it done!  8-)

George,

I understand your frustration.  I am ready to jump ship with TB after being a faithful user for over 15 years.  I was very sad to see Barca Pro (Poco Mail) leave the scene.  I loved that program.  And, they had a calendar!  TB has been very disappointing and terribly frustrating.  Bug Ridden Software for sure.  You would think they would hire some professional programmers who knew how to program.  Very Sad.

They are professional programmers. I do use TB! as working tool that doing for me money and gives extra free time with sorting, templates and many other features. There is no better email-client for me than TheBat!

Just FYI - it fixed. I'm with 9-4-4 few weeks already.
