P7M encrypted files freeze The Bat

Hello. When I receive an email with P7M file attachments, The Bat freezes for at least one or two minutes, even if I don't try to open the attached files. Just selecting the message containing the P7M files is enough to make The Bat hang...

This is a very common format in Italy, where documents are encrypted with a digital signature: https://sslinsights.com/what-is-p7m-file-extension/

How can I prevent this from happening?

1) Disable file preview feature. But that will disable all previews, not only p7m

R.Cl on a file - uncheck attachment "auto-preview"

2) Send to support few .msg examples of such a letters. Let they helps you. If they do something good - don't forget to tell us here.

Which message viewer are you using, the classic one or the conversation view?

In any case, try right-clicking on the part of the window where the attachments are, and deselect "Attachment auto-preview" if it is selected (should not have a checkmark next to it).

Ah, beat me to it :)

Disabling preview is no biggie in the classic view, I actually keep it permanently disabled and use the tabs for previewing. The conversation view is another story...

One of my loving feature. To not open small word/excel/pdf files in the desktop apps.

Thx, forget that tabs below is a preview feature. But prefer to click files directly in the attachment window.

Hi
I use classic view. I tried to disable file preview but it still hangs as soon as I select the message in the Inbox.

The strange thing is that it hangs only if these kind of message with these attachments are in the inbox folder. If I forward them and so they appear on the sent folder, it doesn't freeze if I select them....

I also tried to contact support but no solution for now

Strange indeed, but may be an opportunity for a workaround. You can create a dedicated folder for such messages, and use a filter to automatically move them there from the Inbox.

Unless it is the forwarding doing the "wrapping" of the whole message as an attachment which does the trick. (So your attachment becomes an attachment within an attachment.) EDIT: In that case you could perhaps create a filter which does two things:
1. Forward the message to yourself
2. Move the original message to a dedicated "Quarantine" folder which you never open

Try to switch the method of certificates handling from internal to Microsoft CryptoAPI (or vice versa) - see menu Options > S/Mime and TLS...

I think it's either caused by the HTML viewer (see if switching to Plain Text fixes it), or by your antimalware (reboot Windows in Safe Mode, relaunch The Bat and see if it still occurs).
