part of all mail gone

part of all mail gone, v1.34a part of mail missing after backup

He copied his entire mail directory, and copied it back afterwards. Now he can only see messages from 2004. When I open the TBI and TBB files in notepad, I can see all messages so the information is still there but the bat doesn't seem to see it. How can I get his newer messages back? Thanks!
