setting message width

Is there a way to do this, so that while typing, the bat automatically generates a carriage return, even though I have not reached the edge of my screen? thanks, Yves

I can still write all the way to the edge of my screen and I have to manually line break if I want to start a new line before I get to the edge of the screen.
