Old Versions (3.98 is rather tacky), Are other versions available for download?

Judging from complaints I read here, it seems that some versions that make it to "release" aren't all that stable. Is it asking too much from RITLabs for some provision to keep a few older versions available for download, along with advice as to which of these versions has been found to be most stable?

For 3.98, when I enter a rule on my firewall for The Bat, the "application" field in the firewall rules table describes this application as "The Bat! Email Client. Works with Windows Vista." The firewall is clearly getting this description from the program itself, since I certainly didn't enter anything about Vista. I hate Vista, I really object to seeing this kind of crap in the "program description" field, and I think it is just incredibly tacky. Couldn't we do away with this kind crap in the future?

you can't expect any software company to advise users about 'most stable' versions - this implies the current version is less stable, nobody will acknowledge such a thing even if it's true.
Imo the most stable recent version is 3.85.03, I think the last one before the Christmas edition.
As for 'Works with Windows Vista', is it really that important to be discussed here? I guess you can simply edit the description acc. to your taste.

I'd like to second the request that earlier versions be kept available for download, please. With 3.98.4, I'm still getting the `delay in sending queued mail' problem (see separate thread), about which nobody seems willing or able to offer any help.

Don't know how long they'll stay there.
For myself I'm always storing the installlers of software I installed. That makes it easier to go back to older versions.

Hi Roelof,

Just like you do, I always keep (almost all) old versions of TheBat!, just in case when problems occur with new releases of TheBat!

Well, there is now a MAJOR problem with theBat!:

Since yesterday, when I start the Bat, the Splash screen pops up (which is normal!!), and that;s about it!!

Nothing more happens.
First I thought that it might be making an automatically backup (bacause this autobackup is now a new feature in the latest release), but after waiting patiently for TheBat! to come up with it's mailscreen, I waited in vain. Nothing happens.

I was forced to kill the mailer process via the XP Pro taskmanager, and I noticed that ThaBat! takes up 50% CPU load.

It seems that more people have this problem, and my question is: what to do now???

I'm using TheBat! professionally and I cannot get to my email anymore.

I tried going back to older versions, I have tried the StripReloc113 trick, but all in vain.

I'm stuck completely.

Please can you help??

Thanks

I have a question. When you download The Bat, do you immediately delete the setup file after you install it? If so, why? I still have older setup files from previous versions. I see this question asked a lot (not just for The Bat, but other software) and I always have to wonder what people do with the setup files.

What was the problem with that? Were you unable to revert to an older version or did that older version have the same problem?

I'll do my best, but some more info would be nice.
Did you change anything before the problem occurred?
Are you using an encrypted messagebase, how many accounts, any plugins?

Hi,

I get the same problem.

I have discovered that by killing all TB processes, installing 3.95.06 (Christmas) and the going to "control panel/add remove programs" and then doing a repair.

The Bat! then runs. Once. I have to do a Kill/repair each time I need to open The Bat!

Hope that at least get's you up and running.
