migrating from Thunderbird 2

Hello

I wish to try thebat pro because I am having problems with TH especially with email compression . I have no end problems with email compression on TH .

please I wish to know

1) how to convert/import all my email accounts and how to import all my email messages and folders ( A LOT !) from TH to the Bat !. I tried thebat and I have seen no way to import using the import wizard !
Can you suggest a free software to import all ?

2) thebat has problems with compressing email too ?
I have a lot of email folders and email !

3) I will use thebat on my pc , and during the travel on notebook. Will I need 2 licenses or it's enough 1 license ?

4) Is it better to wait thebat 4 or I can order now 3.99 and receive 4 for free ?

5) can thebat work fine with NOD32 to detect email virus ?

Thanks
Graziano

1) IIRC Thunderbird is using the unix mailbox format. The Bat! can import that, albeit that it has to import one folder at a time.

2) With The Bat! you need to compress your message base, yes. It has no problem to do so.
All mail clients need to compress their message base. This is because when you store lots of messages in one file, the fastest way to delete a message is to mark it as deleted. Compressing is merely creatiung a new message base without the deleted messages.
The only way to prevent the necessity of compressing is to store every message as a single file. This slows the access to indivual messages considerably.

3) The idea is that you get a personal license, to be used by you. You can install it on multiple pc's, as long as you don't use more copies simultaneously.

4) I don't know when v4 will be published. Tradition has it that there's a reduced upgrade fee for existing users. There have been exceptions with free upgrades for users who bought TB the day before a new version, but that isn't something to count on.

5) IIRC There's a plugin for NOD32, but I'm not absolutely sure about that.

regarding 1)

Please where can I found the "how to" to import messages from TH . I have a lot of folders and subfolders , really a lot (I can count them , because really a lot) , so I need something to do that automatically.

Thanks

You cannot import them automatically. You can only import the folders individually as 'unix mailbox'.

do you have in plan to support fully TH import ?

Considering the fact that it's just you and me in this topic, that strikes me as an odd question.

don't you consider how many people try your software and leave it only because the import section does not have TH ?

I am one of them , only/simply I had the patience to post here.

Please read my signature.

So Ritlabs does not read the forum , this is odd !

You're jumping to conclusions and I think you fail to grasp the dynamics of forum communication.

You ask a question
I answer
You ask a follow-up
I clarify

Here we've clearly established a one to one conversation.

Next you ask "do you have in plan to support fully TH import ?"
Considering everything that seems to ask whether I intend to implement Thunderbird import.
As I'm just another user, just like you, I thought that an odd question.

You ask for clarification
I point to my signature

My signature merely states that I don't work for Ritlabs, not that folks from Ritlabs don't read this forum. So please read carefully and don't react on things that haven't been said.

Actually, folks from Ritlabs do read this forum, sometimes they even post here. However they've never discussed with me whether they intend to expand the number of clients supported by the import wizard, so I don't know.

I have nothing against you . Simply if after 2 days I can't see a reply from Ritlabs to a possible client  , my conclusion is "Ritlabs does not read the Ritlabs forum!" . Easy no ?

I love the "uhmm"
You've taken a bat at everyone that has tried to help you. (pun intended)

This is a user to user forum uhmmm ... I guess you missed that. Roelof told you how to do it. Seems like that was too much work. I gave you a solution, that was too much money (uhmm ... I guess)

I have that program as I too came from Thunderbird. I had been going to email you and offer to do the conversion. I am glad I didn't - there would have been something wrong with that too (uhmm ... probably)

it's forbidden to express a true opinion in a user to user forum ? I like to be true , sorry for that.
You no ?

or do you prefer this way

"Thank you for your great help , today I will order it and I will convert all the email , thank you thank you." ?

Nothing against you and against Roelof Otten .

IMHO my idea is that Ritlabs should promptly reply to his clients in this forum , otherwise close the forum is not useful, I can get user to user discussion in other 100000000 forums on the web. If I am here is because I wish to have also a reply from someone at Ritlabs.

Bye

Why of course not! That is what I was doing. :)

in 3 days no possibility to migrate all my folders in a easy and free way from Th . I will stay with thunderbird , at least there there is always someone who reply the forum and answers to questions and problems.

Bye

with version 4 are there news ?

Will be possible to import from TH without troubles

with version 4 are there news ?

Is it NOW possible to import from Thunderbird without troubles ?

In the time it took you to wait I could have imported your mail database a trillion time. You were told how to do it without trouble you just don't seem to want to put a little effort into it. What is your trouble with the steps in the second reply? The effort because you have to many folders? Well, switching clients is not always painless... Again, you could have done that a trillion times since July last year...

so... nothing has been done also with version 4 .
Unbelieveable.
