Read what I write please.
The 'mailbox import wizard' adds a folder structure, so therefore you need an account to be selected (whether it's the account or a folder in it doesn't matter) As you always select an account, display of the 'mailbox import wizard' is always enabled.
The other message import tools don't add folders but just a number of messages, therefore you need a folder to be selected before display of that option is enabled.
That's the same logic as you want, though you complain that TB acts differently. (More or less the same as I explained in my previous message, trhough I'm using more words now, I hope that this clears things up for you.) |
OK, since this is turning into a pointless argument and a battle of wits, let me try an make things more clearer and from a layman's pov instead of a developer's.

The Bat! can easily import messages from other e-mail programs you may use.
1. Go to Tools -> Import Messages -> Mailbox Import Wizard
2. Choose the appropriate program to import from
3. Follow the on-screen instructions
If the desired program is missing from the list:
1. Open your other e-mail program
2. Export all messages into MSG, EML, or MBX files
3. Go back to The Bat! and select Tools -> Import Messages ->
4. Select message type from #2 above and follow the import instructions |
Given the above...
- Nowhere in the docs does it say that the import wizard adds folder structures as opposed to individual messages.
- Nowhere in the docs does it say that you need an account selected in order to use the import wizard.
- Nowhere in the docs does it say that there is a difference between using the import wizard (on an account) and using the other import options (on a pre-existing folder)
- Since The Bat! defaults to selecting an account on startup, when you follow the instructions in the docs, you are already at account level so the instructions will fail because you have no way of knowing that in order to use the []other[/i] options, you have to be a folder level.
I found out how to actually do it after much tinkering.
Apart from that, when I exported an email folder from TB and ended up with the .sbd files and imported them (as Unix), The Bat! mangled the emails and didn't do the import correctly. I had to manually export each individual mailbox (a painstaking process, given that I have almost 30+ individual folders!) and then import each one into The Bat! after having first created the subsequent folder in The Bat!
Nevertheless, I have registered the program and made the final switch from TB 2.0.0.6 since those Open Source guys seem to be focused on bloating the damn program with rubbish (who needs a news reader in an email program?) rather than fixing bugs (some of which go back to 2002) and getting basic functionality working. The same crap that is now plaguing Firefox (which I now use less and less, having started to use IE7 + the IEPro add-on).
So, you folks either need to explain clearly in the docs how importing works or change the program so that the appropriate settings are enabled when applicable.

Maybe, The Bat! should have imported to Inbox (rather than disabling import options) if only an account and not folder is selected. |
There you go. At least someone understands what I'm talking about instead of trying to make me agree to flawed logic.
