Yes. Of course I've tried that.
Gives me this error message:

Ah, looks like some thing trivial in the registry (to me, I could be wrong) - shall certainly update this thread if I come across a solution for this.

I'm not so sure about that.
I just went back to v4.2.44.2..
No such problem there.

Looks like they've fixed the file associations bug now anyway:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8581
:)

EDIT:
Nope. It wasn't fixed.
According to Marek Mikus's note under this report:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8582
..in this case "resolved" actually means "closed as duplicate"  :(

Ah man, am I glad for you and that doesn't seem to be 'closed as a duplicate' - there's only one persons name assigned as the 'Reporter' . . . . . . . yours.

We're definitely going to see an update, soon.

Running 5.0.8 on a Windows Vista x64 system, here're the bugs I've noticed since "upgrading" last night:

- I could not remove the flag from a few messages in a folder. Or rather, the flags stayed on after repeated clicks on them, but when I went to another folder and then came back - the flags on the problem messages were gone.

- In a folder with no unread messages, I have tabs "all", "unread", "flagged" and "parked". If I am in "all" and then click on "flagged" - I see just the flagged messages. If from "all" I go to "unread" (empty) - and then click on any of the "filtered" folders such as "flagged" or "parked" - they show up empty. I.e. the filter is applied to whatever was shown rather than to all messages.

- I have a real folder "a" and a virtual folder "b" which includes everything from "a". When a new message arrived both folders showed one unread message. I went to "a" and read it. Now folder "a" does not show any unread messages - but "b" still shows one unread. Going to it, I don't see any (of course) - but the unread counter stays at 1.

- filters that are supposed to *move* incoming messages *copy* them instead. And (sometimes?) do not mark them as read.

Ok... now going to try reverting back to good old v4...

What a mess! Even wanted to buy TB5.0, waited a long time for the v5.0 release. Postponed and postponed. That's not wrong at all. Better a perfect postponed release than a version with tons of bugs. So now you would think they released an almost perfect brand new The Bat. How wrong can you be? Maybe the forum is not representative for all users of v5.0, but at least from this forum you get the impression that The Bat has become a very bad e-mail program! Ashame. When the first reviews get posted on the Net, it will certainly hurt Ritlabs. People will go for other e-mail programs. Not good at all! Hope they will come very fast with fixes for the

1. Memory corruption (win7-x64?),
2. Wrong e-mail counters,
3. Win7-64 bit support,
4. Read e-mail filter errors,
5. Virtual folder errors,
6. Copy i.s.o move errors,
7. File association errors,
8. etc...?

How's imap working now btw? Is it completely stable now? Does it support the imap IDLE mode? Because thats the only protocol i will be using. B.t.w. i also use whatever e-mail program professionally so it should be completely reliable.

Maybe Ritlabs better remove the v5 version from their website for the time being to prevent people, who don't read the forums, buying or trying it.

I'll wait a couple of weeks to see how it evolves. Under the current conditions certainly won't buy it at this moment.

jan (a lil bit disappointed & annoyed)

Yeah. I hear you, Jan Houtsma.
'Becky! Internet Mail' is starting to look tempting right now:
http://www.rimarts.co.jp/becky.htm
..But like you, I will give Ritlabs some more time too, since I've been using The Bat! for many years now.

How about Outlook Express? And that is FREE!!! Stop and think of what you would be giving up. They are fixing the bugs as we speak. There are a couple that have been mentioned that have moved to a status that indicate that they are fixed and awaiting the next release for verification.
YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS. However version 5 is pretty well behaved and they are actively chasing down any bugs that made it through beta testing.

v5 has major rewrite of code because IMAP, new API and more UNICODE support, this required many subsequent changes in whole program and it contains more than 1,500,000 rows of code already. Even it was postponed many months and and there were more than 150 alpha and beta versions, it is not possible to polish it fully in team of 6 developers and thousand testers and their environments, if there will be millions of users and their configurations. Ritlabs is already working on reports and I expect, many reports will be solved in this or next month.

I am using many IMAP accounts on GMAIL, GMX and FASTMAIL, goal of Ritlabs is to have fastest and best IMAP implementation, it was developed more than year and I am personally happy with it, even there are places to focus yet. It currently supports LITERAL+, IDLE, UIDPLUS a UNSELECT extensions.

Of course the forum is not representative for all users. It's a support forum, and these are always full with problem reports and complaints. If everything is OK, you'll not come here to post. Give it a try, don't decide from what you read here.
BTW first see if you really need v.5. I myself have only POP3 accounts and so still use theBat v3.85 and don't see whatever reason to upgrade - it works just perfectly for me, not a single problem after years of usage.

True.

Yes, The Bat! worked like a charm back then.
These days, known bugs gets neglected year after year.

Come on friends! Don't be so unkind to Ritlabs. They are working on our reports. I have experienced all bugs in v.5 and going to switch back to v.4. Give them some time! Be patient with your favorite email client. Which other email client has so many features and listening support? Outlook? Hehe!!!
Afterall, we are TheBat fans and will remain. Let's help them have no-bug version soon... :)

there are serious problems with IMAP, one of them spawns countless error messages (at a rate of about 1Hz until I kill The Bat through the task manager) informing me about access violations at address whatever in module thebat.exe... This error is potentially linked to repeated connects (successful) and unexpected disconnect from the IMAP server. No such issues with 4.2.44.

Marc

Win7 Pro 64bit, The Bat 5.0.8, well back to 4.2.44.2 now ;)

v5.0.8 does have some "hang" issues. minimizing the window will hang my system for what seems a few minutes then returns system to normal operation. and a few of the same issues mentioned above.

i'll downgrade for  now

I have noticed "hanging" issues with version 5. Most of it has to do with downloading all the images (and I have a lot of HTML mail) and a lot of deleted files in the folder(s).

Running the Maintenance center will alleviate a lot of it. Also clearing out the \imgfiles\ fo;der. I set that and the cache folder in Ccleaner and that makes it a two click operation.

Here's two other small bugs I've found in v5:

* When exporting mail(s) to UNIX Mailbox, the process bar is placed on top of the save window:
http://img37.picoodle.com/i547/tomaso..._u8zxn.jpg

* When performing certain tasks (e.g. clicking 'Account -> 'Properties'), the program hangs a bit, and the cursor can't be moved.
(This only happens for a fraction of a second, but I still think that it qualifies as a bug)

(WinXP/SP3)
I recognize both these problem as well. I see this process bar every time a save a message to disk.

Also XP SP3.

Besides, it looks like saved messages are locked for some time (Unlocker says it's TB) - they appear as having zero bytes and are empty if you try to open them. Here's a screenshot of a test I made - the first one (988 bytes) eventually was unlocked (not sure what did it), the other ones remain locked. They're still locked now, after several minutes. Looks like the file- or streamwriter process is not being closed correctly.

The only way to downgrade, is by uninstalling TB (without deleting the message base) and then to install v4.
You can also do a system restore. At least on W7 it worked for me. It appears that before installing V5 performs a checkpoint.

I went back to version 4.2.44.2, The Mail Ticker is back too, so I will keep the old version. ;)

Hi

Last week I've updated from latest 4 version into 5.0.8
Previous version worked OK, but with latest one I'm experiencing significant lag with basic operations, like:

- create new message
- forwarding message
- opening specific folder
- resizing TheBat window
- etc

Lag manifests by freezing mouse cursor for 1-2 seconds until clicked operation inst done.
When resizing TheBat window, it continues to resize for next seccond even if mouse button is depressed.

Previous 4.2.44 version worked fast, without problems.

Question:
Can I revert back by simple reinstall 4.2.44 over 5.0.8?

My specs:
Win7 64 ultimate SP1
Q9950 CPU, 8 GB ram, Sapphire 5870 GPU, Aero disabled

uninstall v5, install v4

I don't know if I'm the only one with this issue, but Ver. 5 doesn't remember the language setting. It starts over every time with the default language.

Not confirmed under WinXP/SP3.
