Been using TB5.0.8 for about a week now on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. The only issue I've noticed is that the mail count on one folder keeps changing to -1. I haven't worked out what triggers this incorrect count yet. Closing TB and opening again fixes it temporarily, but it always goes back to -1 after a while.

Version 5.0.8 seems to be very unstable on win 7 SP1. Have noticed similar behavior too,the only difference - mail count was 0. Restarting The Bat fixed this issue.

Ruesell, is this virtual folder?

anders.m, what unstable means? You wrote about counter and language selection only, as I saw.

Hi Marek, it is the trash folder in my Gmail account - it gives an unread count of -1 sometimes after emptying the trash folder, but not every time - I don't know what the trigger is. There are many other POP accounts which are functioning perfectly. I was relieved to see that others are having problems with message counts, as I feared some kind of malware might have been responsible. I'm farily new to TheBat!, as I'm still using Outlook Express with Win XP at home, so when I got the negative count, I didn't know what to think. |

Hi Marek, I have isolated the email which causes the Trash folder to have a count of negative 1 (-1). It is a daily report from [email protected] of uptime/downtime on a web host. Each time I empty the Trash folder while this email is in the Trash, the count goes to -1. Instead of moving the email to the Trash folder, today I copied it, and kept the original. The trash folder went to -1 when emptied. I closed TheBat! and after opening, repeated. Again, this email caused it to go to -1. I then copied the same message to the Trash folder in another account, and then emptied the Trash - no problems, the count went to 0. I've been receiving this report for several years, and have never had this or any other problem with the message. If you want any further information, or a copy of the email in question, I'd be happy to help. |

I have used TheBat! for about 8 years, and still find it the best email client, but this is the first time I really want to downgrade it and wait for the bugs fixed.
This new version does not allow me to thread the messages properly. In the previous version, I could thread them by sender+date (the most recent message would be on top threaded with the previous messages from that sender), but now the messages are either threaded alphabetically (and a message from for example Mr. Alex will go to the top and Ms.Zhang will go to the bottom, and I have to fish for new messages), or if I sort the messages by date, then I cannot thread them by the sender. Very inconvenient ![]() |

Svetlanaa, I think that your issue might be a change in the way the options are organised. Try going to Help, and search for 'View Modes' - hope this helps.
Marek - on my issue of the Trash folder going to a message count of -1. After my last message, I held Shift while deleting that message, bypassing the Trash folder. I don't know if something that simple could have fixed anything, but I haven't had the folder go to -1 since that. It's been three days now with no Trash folder message count of -1. Everything seems to be running perfectly now, thanks. |

Ok I've been trying to get the threaded view to work but it just doesn't ... View modes don't help
I mean: threads work but they are only sorted alphabetically and you cannot sort them by date ( sorting only affects messages in threads ) which is kind of pointless and much worse compared to what we had in V4 Some info: Win 7 x64 ( SP & all updates ) , upgraded from last V4. |

I'd like to chime in as well and report my problems. I've been using professionally TB for about 2 years now, switching from the (then) very good Pmmail PRO. Upgrading to 5.0.8 introduced a very annoying problem. I make heavy use of mail filtering and among this there are a few automatic print tasks. Previously, the print process took place seamlessly. With 5.0.8, a message pops up requesting confirmation for the print. After such confirmation, a popoup reports an error:
And then any other attempt to print, either from a filter or done manually through CTRL-P, does not work until I restart TB. My system runs under WinXP SP3. Has anyone else reproduced this bug? Is this bug known to Ritlabs? regards, Andrea |

There are two fixes related to print functions in v5.0.12:

I am very disappointed with v5 and it's updates.
I am even more disappointed with the supercilious replies from RIT and what appears to be their total lack of interest in clients' problems, and this coupled with various, somewhat sarcastic, postings by some users here, has made me want to give up. It's great that updates with up to 35 fixes have been published (read that in this topic somewhere), yet not one of the problems detailed in this and other relevant topics appear to have been addressed. What criteria is used? It obviously isn't customer satisfaction. Just for the record, I have experienced all of the problems outlined. I am in no way a 'power user' but want to be able to take advantage of the various advantages the program purports to offer (and indeed, used to offer). Basic problems that didn't exist before but have been introduced now are deplorable, avoidable and should never have got past whatever in-house testing is done. For the record, basic problems that I feel need to be addressed immediately: No messsage counts in password-locked folders; Ticker does not appear; View mode appears to have gone - all of my folders display as 'generic'; Message-List folder tabs cannot be manipulated or edited: they return to their original state - or if created do not appear; Filters seem to be eratic - now working, now not working. There you go. Problems that to me are of paramount importance to manipulate my emails. And please, spare me your derision simply because they are 'basic'. I really can do without it. What I can't do without is the email program I purchased (many years ago). In the interim, I too have gone back to v4.2.42. But I'm not staying there. If I cannot be treated as a valued customer by having my complaints at least acknowledged, if not actually addressed, it's time to go elsewhere. By the way, running Windows7 Ultimate, SP1. Stephen |

Hello,
I have also the Filter problem that messages are not marked as read - what is super boring for me as I use this fuction a lot. I reported the problem long time ago - the answer was it is fixed in the Beta - it was not fixed there - so I was hoping it is fixed in the 5.0.12 Version - but IT IS NOT! ![]() I get really bored not only about the problem but also about RIT-Labs and the Support. One Thing is for sure I will think very carefully if I revert back to Version 4 and never will buy a Upgrade from them. Can someone from RIT-Labs please answer why they don't care about their customers?

I tried both .8 and .12 as soon as they have been released - none works. As simple as that - any time I start it, it just hangs trying to process folders. Second time sometimes lucky, sometimes not. So, I went back to v4 from .8 and now have to go back from .12

Yes its really a shame - I got another answer to my ticket.
The first Answer was - try the Beta - what did not solve the filter problem. So I was guessing they fixed it in the new Final .12 - wrong guess... So I reported it again - now the answer : we did not fix the filter problem at all - there are more important things to fix. Wow that is a great answer - really... why they tell me to try the beta when they even not thinking about to fix the problem? Give me some work? Think I have too much time? So I revert now the 3rd time to version 4 - can I charge my working time to RitLabs? One thing is for sure - I will NOT buy anything from them again and for sure not an Upgrade to v5.

Damn, that really shows their attitude towards their customers! |
|||
|

No it isn't. They are fixing crashes and AVs that have come up after a total rewrite of the program. They will occasionally fix the "low hanging fruit" i.e. cosmetic or easy fixes. They are going to get to the filtering issues |
|||
|
|
The problem is that there'll ALWAYS be "more important things to fix"..
That's why the minor bugs (like this one: If they never have time to fix stuff like that, they should hire more programers! |

It's ashame. V5 was delayed and delayed and delayed all the time because of all kind of new (beta) problems that kept popping up all the time. Fixing one bug after the other, always new bugs re-appeared. And so on. Making the product unqualified to be released in production. Why they ever released it anyways can only be guessed. Was it the pressure of lots of users, already waiting ages for a new version with improved imap support etc.. demanding a new release? At least it seems there was lot of pressure to release it. Who ever decided to release this version also ruined the excellent reputation (if not using imap at least) of TB it had before for sure. I have tried to be patient for a long time now hoping V5 would be updated soon but the response is minimal. I wouldn't recommend TB5 to anyone for serious usage. My feeling is that this new code is still full of nasty bugs not discovered yet. And that the problems are far above their heads. At least they lost me as a potential user and buyer, however after this post TB lovers probably won't regret me giving up on this product. I found Postbox to be an excellent and very reliable alternative that deals very well (and fast) with my thousands of e-mails and 7 e-mail accounts in parallel (both imap and pop), with conversation views etc. Very nice! Good luck with the future!
