New bugs in v5 release

jan

I can't say that I disagree with you in many of your criticisms, having posted a few comments that aren't that dissimilar. Nonetheless, I have to say (and have already said) that although I was amazed that this version got let loose I still feel that v4 is worth going back to, rather than abandoning TB! altogether. I have been a TB! user for many years, and whilst v5 is undoubtedly a no go for me personally, v4 works fine....even with unfixed bugs. I downgraded, and continue using as if v5 doesn't exist yet. It'll be a good while before I consider trying out v5 again, and I do hope that the developers don't ditch support for XPPro SP3 users just yet.

So, my advice to anyone who isn't too happy with v5 is go back to v4 and wait it out.

Simon,

I feel that I must answer you.
I too have been using TB for many years. And yes, it is true that we can go back to v4 (which I have done). However what irks me is the total lack of regard (respect??) that RIT seem to have for its customers. TB is always good, never any problems. It is always the fault of the user. I have had it with them and am looking for a new product. Good luck if you stay with TB.

And good luck to you as well, Stephen.  :) I confess I have looked around for an alternative (about 4 months back) but nothing really matched TB! for features...well the features I use I mean. Mozilla's Thunderbird seemed like a good product but it still didn't measure up next to TB! when I tried it. And at the insistence of a colleague I even tried Outlook 2007 (don't know what the hell I was thinking) again but it lasted all of an hour on my system and off it came, complete with Office 2007. Horrible software. I couldn't be without decent filtering and templates now, and my email is so easy to manage and back up as the email base is on a Truecrypt drive. I also use 'Extended Macro plugin', which had become essential now (should come with TB! as default). Trying to find a replacement client that can duplicate all the functions I need would be a wretched nightmare, so you'll have to forgive my reluctance to ditch TB! and start looking again. With webmail being so popular (not with me) and free there don't seem to be that many decent email client alternatives being developed these days...well aside of Mozilla's.

when viewing the account log and closing the window, TB hangs forever and keyboard & mouse actions are unresponsive. eventually i can get the taskmanager to popup and kill TB, but this like after many many minutes.
