Customise Message list Scrollbar, how do you customise the message list scrollbar

Hi there.

I wonder if anyone can offer any advice on how to customise the scrollbar on the message list.

I have quite a few messages in my inboxes and the result is an absolutely tiny scroll bar  - which just about completely blends into the background until mouse over. (using Choco dark)

screen capture can be seen here https://ibb.co/s5vPnWf

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Kind regards
Brad

Are you about window with attachment files? Just change pane to some another view (up/down/left/right), menu Workspace -> Attachment files ->

Hi George
Thank you for your message and advice.

No it is not the attachment  - I am struggling to see the actual scrollbar  - used to scroll up and down the message list. (like your browser scroll bar -  in  css you can target with ::-webkit-scrollbar)

I see the link to the screen capture is not working maybe this one will  https://i.postimg.cc/FzHKGKs5/message-sidebar.jpg   - you will see two scrollbars  the message list is very difficult for me to see - the single message is one fine.

Kind regards
Brad

Brad, would it help if you edit the theme, as explained in this article? :

I don't see anything wrong with them. One of messages scroll, second of current message.

I think Brad's problem is this: the color of the scroll box is only a tiny bit brighter than the scroll bar itself. On laptop screens or on monitors with limited brightness, it will be difficult to see where the scroll box is on the scroll bar -- and so, it will be hard to grab it with the mouse pointer and slide it up or down.

Brad: adjusting the gamma, contrast or brightness of your monitor might also help alleviate this problem. I recommend the suite of test images at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ for checking to see if your display settings are OK.

Daniel, thank you for your reply and included link.  I have customised my theme and do find it very useful - but unfortunately it only allows you to edit the components and not the framework  -  scrollbars fall into framework.

I did after your reply, wonder if it was possible to select a theme, Ruby Graphite seems to have the best sidebars for my needs and try and tone it back to something similar to Choco -  but the editor does not allow you to change red borders around many items or the red top section etc..

I do need full height account tree in my split window mode.

George, you are absolutely correct both sidebars are there  - but when they are placed at the far right of my screen and viewed at around a 40deg angle it is very easy for me to loose the message scrollbar .  If I said scrollbars should be like gearshifts in a car  - something you can just use when you need to - and not have to scratch around trying to find it.

All the best
Brad

Thank you Daniel   -  for explaining that better than I did -  it seems we were both replying at the same time and I only saw yours after I replied.

I appreciate your advice  and my question has now been answered  - that currently there is no way to adjust sidebar contrast

All the best
Brad

That's too bad! You could still contact Ritlabs' technical suport people if you want, using the Support menu near the top of this page.

I have always to calibrate my monitors in Windows, manually through internal utility. Just need to do it and you will see your scroll marker with choko dark theme.

Brad, is the problem that you want to use one of the dark themes? I use the Classic theme, and the contrast seems to be fine, but it's definitely a light theme. The Windows 10 Dark theme seems to have somewhat better contrast on the scrollbar, but this all depends on the type of screen you use, too.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and advice.

Hi Daniel - hopefully support might see this thread  and implement further accessibility setting to the themes in version 10  - not only do we all have different screens but also different eye capabilities  - even setting the minimum height of the scroll bar bar would be of help to many.

George - thank you for your comment however my monitor has been calibrated and works just fine for all my other needs including Photoshop and my printers  - to have to adjust your monitors contrast to be able to use an apps scroll bar is really not an option.

Warner -  thank you  -  I have spent time trying all the themes and found that Choco dark was the most comfortable to use the the best to help my transition from a beautiful custom theme in Zimbra desktop.. On the subject of themes Ruby Graphite (as previously mentioned) has the best scroll bars for me ..

All the best

They will see it if you create a ticket at www.ritlabs.com/en/support and put in your request there, with a link to this discussion. They're currently working on the next release, so I think it would be a good time.

I don't use Choco Dark myself, but seeing the screenshot at https://www.ritlabs.com/en/news/7484/ I agree that the scrollbar, as an essential interface element that is used all the time, should stand out more. Hopefully they will make it so, or give you an option to do it yourself.

I don't know why everybody is using dark themes these days, but I suspect it is because monitors have become so bright and contrasty. The first thing that I do when I get a new monitor is turn the brightness down a lot, to a level where I can view a 100% white screen without eyestrain.
