In 5.08. there is a bug if i use Password Protection for an account: Only then the number of messages will not displayed in the column of "total" and "new".
I agree. All password protected accounts fail to show the number of unread messages and the total number of messages. In accounts that are *not* pw protected, the counts show up just fine.
Thanks for the help, but unfortunately it does not work. Only once: Disable Password protection, then delete .tbn and it works for one login. At the next login all the folders show "0" for the number of total messages.
And deleting .tbn can not be the solution, this bug should be fixed.
I cannot get as far as you in using this application. Version 5 churns my disk continuously when I first run the application. I am not able to do anything else.
I have the same problem also with version 5. I don't know why each time close the form such as close message or address book, it delay for few seconds. I don't encounter this behaviour on previous version (4.2.44). If Ritlabs don't fix this issue soon, I need to downgrade the bat. Is it possible to downgrade? I am affraid downgrading will raise another issue.
Have experienced none of the bugs that you pointed out - in fact, the 5.0.8 upgrade installed quite smoothly with all features working seamlessly for me. However, unlike you- I'm running Windows 7 (SP-1)
Hope your V4 installation was free from corruption before you tried to upgrade to V5.
The only way to downgrade, is by uninstalling TB (without deleting the message base) and then to install v4. Point v4 to the mail directory, create a new account with the name of your old account and things should work out just fine. (TB will pick up all settings) I hope you still got your registration info, as you'll need to enter those again.

I've noticed that some of my filters that also mark messages as "read" are working intermittently. Sometimes they get marked as read, sometime they don't. They *do* always get filtered into the right folders, just not always marked as read.
I have the same issue, mentioned above, with all password protected accounts failing to show the count of unread messages and the total number of messages. Any solution that works besides downgrading?
Hope your V4 installation was free from corruption before you tried to upgrade to V5.
I never do upgrades, only clean installs.
(I uninstalled the old version, and deleted the remaining folders and reg. strings before I installed v5)
Unlike others who upgraded to V5 by overwriting V4, it didn't seem to have helped your cause - did it?
BTW, wonder if the mails restored from your previous V4 backup had anything to do with it.
FWIW, I wouldn't classify this; as a bug - since, nobody else has reported it (unless this issue is noticeable on XP only while the rest are all running a more modern OS)

In this case I think it's pretty safe to say it neither helped nor did it do any harm. Anyway, clean installs is definitely a good habit to have.

I only restored two mails (which I had exported to UNIX), but that was AFTER I encountered the problems.

Unless you need something like DirectX 10 or 11 for hardcore gaming, or just have a really weak spot for bells and whistles, I'd say XP is still the way to go.. It beats the hell out of the bloaty Vista and 7 in almost every benchmark!

Well, I can see all that reflecting . . . . . . on your opening post of this thread.
Coming back to the topic, your other part of the response clearly indicates that the issue is neither related to a installation glitch nor to a botched restore. Can't think of anything else to assisst you by way of the OS since you already have the most advanced one which just can't possibly go wrong. Moreover, since this so called bug has not yet been reported by anybody else, the only weak link that is left, unfortunately . . . . . . . . is the human element. 8)

This one!
I agree that one is not a figment of wild imagination - it's truly a bug since so many of you guys are experiencing that issue. Guess RitLabs would be resolving it sooner than later.

Enough with all the sarcasm, Battie. Sure, WinXP has got a fair share of issues, like any other OS.. It's old, but XP is still officially supported by The Bat!, and the program should behave normally when running under it.
It just occurred to me that I might have forgotten to reboot before installing v5, which might have been a reason for the file association errors, but no such luck; I did another clean install right now, and made sure I rebooted first, but I encountered the exact same errors.
* When performing certain tasks (e.g. clicking 'Account -> 'Properties'), the program hangs a bit, and the cursor can't be moved. (This only happens for a fraction of a second, but I still think that it qualifies as a bug)
I have installed 5.0.8 (upgrade, not clean install) - at the begining everything was OK, then suddenly MailTicker has dissapeared and it doesn't show at all... Even when there are new messages and I go to Preferences, show Mail Ticker always it always writes "0 messages". Even more - it doesn't change background color, only opacity works. But it doesn't show on "Preview" button. One more thing - when I move MailTicker at the bottom of the screen it doesn't dock on the top of task bar, as it used to do in previous version
I am using WinXP Pro SP3 also at my office. My problem is similar with yours. It seems that The Bat hang for few seconds if I do some actions. Below are the detail of issues happened on my bat: 1. Create New Message & close by pressing X button, hang for few seconds before closed 2. Open Address Book & close by pressing X button, hang for few seconds before closed But if I am doing the following actions, it works fine: 1. Create New Message & close form by pressing Escape button, immediately closed 2. Open Address Book & close form by selecting File - Exit menu, immediately closed
I already informed my issue to Ritlabs staf and ask the possibility to downgrade to the previous version (4.2.44), it is simple, just replace thebat.exe file with the previous one. It works for me, so if you want to downgrade to previous version, just replace thebat.exe file.
Tomaso wrote: Enough with all the sarcasm, Battie.
Fair enough, Tomaso.
You would've most probably resolved your issues with the 'associations' and the 'mail sound,' by now . . . . . . in the good old fashioned, manual way.
It's a pity this thread got inundated with all different sorts of problems - wish people would've started new threads for the same.
We'll probably be seeing some updates for V5 from Ritlabs, very soon.
